Ok guys..

Since.. the idea of using and speaking in English in our community and forum had already been widely accepted by most of the members...therefore.. this thread is being created as the platform for us to voice out.. to speak.. to learn.. or anything at all in English...

Some of u already agreed the idea to have an English day/week in the forum.. so that.. the use of this language can help to increase our skills and perhaps some good vocabulary..or even more..

You dont have to be shy.. hesitate or even afraid to post anything in English.. and let me assure you that we are all adults here and let's share our knowledge and skills to all... a little laugh or even some teasing might affect your starting action but in time.. u'll realize its fun.. so... just start anything here.. and let's enjoy...

1st of all, i am glad that this english section thread has been created. Yes it's true that we all learn from our mistake, as for that purpose we must speak, write and communicate in order to improve our english.

Use simple english if you don't want to caught in difficulties.

you are absolutely right about that bro.. speaking and writing is 2 different things..

in writing.. we still have time to correct what ever mistakes that might occur

but

in speaking terms.. time is of the essence.. we dont want people to think that we are a 'stammer" person... so.. to be safe... just use simple english and do avoid using bombastic words.. unless u are really familiar with the word...

JARGON - words or expressions used by a particular group that are difficult for others to understand

JARGON are big sounding words that are not precise. it meaningless word and that dont make sense. We ususally use precise words (accurate)

well...i myself experienced the same thing bro. im working in healthcare services company (hospital le) that using english as first language. when u walk in, u even can see makcik2 cleaner speaks in english. mrgreen_001

actually my mom is my second teacher in English..she always speak English with me. i know that i got band 5 in MUET but it doesn't mean that im better in English because i can speak fluently but i can't wrote.. im fail in writing especially in my grammar.my friend always need my help to correct their thesis but i can't help them..i'd knew my weaknesses but im try to improve it slowly.

It's kind of fun to have a special English thread here in the forum, but it is common anyway. It is hard but it's a good start. All I can say is practice. Learning English requires a lot of practice. Try to talk with your friends or colleagues that have better skills than you do in English, even if you're in a country which the native language is not English, for example here in Slovakia. People here don't speak English unless if they have to, especially the taxi drivers, and apparently I have to learn some native Slovak terms instead, otherwise I won't reach the office on time :p or even find my way back to hotel.

Practice.. I don't know a better way to practice than thinking and speaking in English each time we can. It may be easier to say it than do it, but one thing try not to be embarrassed by your friend correcting you and rather see it as an opportunity to progress. Try not to see a mistake as something terrible. See speaking English as something fun rather than something very serious in which any mistake is sentenced by death. :p

Do realize that watching TV/movies and listening to the talk back radio will effectively improve our English. Watching the news is a good way to start, because most of the journalists speak very clearly, without strong accents.

One tips to make it fun!: Get an English movie DVD

Go buy an English movie DVD (Dengan izin: pinjam je pun buleh). Put the English subtitles on. Follow the movie.
Believe me this has many advantages:

* You will be able to compare the written words to the correct pronunciations.
* You will get a feel of how real English sentences are formed when speaking.
* You will be learning English but it will not be frustrating and boring because you will be watching a movie.

Please note: When you watch the movie be sure to keep your dictionary handy. Whenever you come across a new word, pause the movie and look it up in the dictionary. If you don’t do this, the whole experience will be quite pointless.

Good point artz.. been doing all that my whole life actually..

that's one way to make english a fun thing as it should be...

one more thing.. remember that when we were kids and teenagers.. always sing all the English songs...especially.. Metallica... Nirvana.. Guns & Roses..etc?...(just to name a few..)

Well.. some of us might still remember all the lyrics but the thing is.. do we really understand what is all the song is about.. or even understand all the metaphores being used?..

well.. if not.. better starts now guys.. and.. its fun right??..

remembering all your favourite songs is one thing.. but truly understand all the words and the messages behind it is better...

and as i stated before.. just use simple english.. starts from the basics.. and honestly.. i'd prefer the communication rather than writing skills... coz.. IMHO... we normally use english to communicate.. and that's what differs us (Malay) from other races...

we always too proud of our native language.. its good to uphold the heritage... but it's also an advantage if we learn other language.. especially English.. since it is widely been used everywhere...

It is better to try and understand someone else or other people then for others to understand us.This is because in giving and receive.

For an example : In an office where a lot of people work together, there is bound to be a lot of misunderstanding, so in order for someone else to understand what we like and dislike, it would be easier for us to understand them first. This is to prevent us from feeling hurt and misunderstood.

this semesters we have mock meeting n interview for public speaking courses they really have problem on speaking and talking..n some of myfriend get bad comment on the interview n mock meeting bcos they do not understand what they said bcos there memorized all details that they need to said..
sorry to say although they are best students but there still have problem bcos almost what there done.they memorized although the english is simple.
b4 this yaya learn english at british council..at there i learn something that open my mind,bcos in my class im is the youngest student among them..most of the student are around 25-60 years old and the student not only malay student there are arabian,indian,korean and etc from that yaya realized that english really important in our life...

sometimes people feel embrasses and not confident while speaking..actually, most of student have presentation session right?? so why not student try to speak in english at presentation session.dont try to read the text at slide and dont feel embrass, show your level confident. it can make other people respect u..

from my experience, while u feel confident when u speak in public, everybody will respect u. it also can make u easier in interview with real company. english is very2 important nowdays. come on my dear, u can try to speak with people nearest u.

- That computer is very sophisticated (this is not user friendly) - hanya untuk org yang pakar je bleh menggunakan komputer yg canggih.

Another meaning of Sophisticated is - having or showing wordly experience and taste in matters of culture or fashion..

Means - memerlukan barang yg high class je yg branded je

example -

- Your wife is more sophisticated than mine (sebab bini dia hanya memakai barang yg high class mcm prada,gucci n yg branded je la)

i have some idea..regarding to improve English in writing, why not we try to love reading reader's digest. this magazines can be example on how to used simple word in writing. the word is simple and easier to understand.

actually u also can used chitchat.com that suggest by zulazfar but dont trust 100% with every single word because some of word can be double meaning...

Wow, actually i'm very impress with you'll english level here, since this is a english thread and from my observation, in my opinion why don't we try to minimised short form, sms form and typing error in here...

Probably achai used regularly this type of words in sms mode on his cell phone...certain people can understand the words, but in exam or fill form or whatever please don't use it because it might be rejected huhuhu... mrgreen_001
